Demi Lovato credits Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé Knowles with boosting her body image.

The 22-year-old singer admits her self-esteem hit an all-time low when she was a teen, no thanks in part to the lack of full-figured women presented in the media.

She’s since embraced her body, and is thankful more females have stepped into the spotlight embracing their womanly figures.

"When I was growing up and when I was a pre-teen, the people that I had to look up to [for] body image [were] extremely underweight… [They] were all very bony at that time and that was the in thing," she explained to Access Hollywood before giving a nod to her fellow stars.

“I really credit women like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian… [they] completely revolutionised what our generation's view of perception of what beautiful is and I really think that they had a huge impact on that.”

Demi acknowledges not everyone may be a major fan of reality stars like Kim. But she urges critics to put aside their feelings about the family and see what good the star and her curvy sisters have done for young girls everywhere.

“You can think whatever you want about the Kardashians, but they really did help tons of women feel comfortable in their own skin and I like to carry that message on," she said, noting other examples.

"Look at J.Lo, look at Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Beyoncé – who I don't really consider human, she is more like a goddess – they have amazing figures it's more realistic and achievable,” Demi mused.
