Austin Mahone says Niall of One Direction was 'obsessed' with his shoes.

The 18-year-old singer was named one of MTV's Artists to Watch in 2013, opened for Taylor Swift on her Red Tour and released his second EP, The Secret, earlier this year. Despite his budding success, the performer still gets excited over his star encounters.

'Last VMAs I performed on the pre-show. I was back and getting ready for my performance and One Direction walks in. I see Niall and he saw my shoes and he was like, 'Oh man, those are the sickest shoes I have ever seen!' And he was obsessed with my shoes and couldn't stop looking at them, so I thought that was pretty cool,' Austin told HollywoodLife.

Austin recorded with Baby hitmaker Justin Bieber earlier this year and his single Mmm Yeah featuring Pitbull was met with success. However, there is still one artist the young singer is vying to collaborate with.

'I am working on getting Drake, so hopefully I will see him soon and get him on a track,' Austin told HollywoodLife.

He also revealed his celebrity crush to the publication. 'Rihanna of course!' he exclaimed.

Austin has been in commercials for McDonald's and served as the Teen Ambassador for Lil Wayne's Trukfit clothing line. For now the star is enjoying his success and building his fanbase.

"I think for me it's just a marathon y'know. I feel like all my life has been that way. It's a lot of hard work and everything's slow but eventually you'll get there. Right now I'm just putting out songs and I'm touring and working, and I just think the more years to come the bigger [my music] is going to be," Austin previously told fuse.tv.
