Jay Curley, bass player for Wollongong stoner band Tumbleweed has died.
Tumbleweed announced Curley's death on their Facebook page.
'It is with deep sadness that we inform everyone of a great loss in the Tumbleweed family, our brother, friend and bass player Jay Curley passed away suddenly in his home yesterday. We are still shocked by the news of his death. We hope that people will remember him for his music, his big heart and his total dedication to rock and roll'.
Tumbleweed rose from the ashes from Proton Energy Pills in the early 90s and gathered momentum on their first national tour as support to Nirvana.
Tumbleweed's first record was released independently via Waterfront and later released where via Polydor. For the USA, the band signed with Atlantic Records. Their debut single was produced by Mark Arm of Mudhoney.
Tumbleweed broke up in 2000 and reformed in 2009. Another album 'Sounds From The Other Side' was released in 2013.
Mudhoney was Jay, Dave and Lenny Curley, and friends Stewart Cunningham and Richard Lewis.
Jay's cause of death is yet to be revealed.
