Ariana Grande vows “nothing” will stop her from making her dreams a reality.
The 21-year-old singer, slated to open the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, is preparing for the upcoming release of her second album, My Everything.
And she credits her incredible work ethic with propelling her career, particularly over the last year.
"When I'm working on my music, I submerse myself," she told USA Today. "Nothing's going to stop me. It fulfills me. That's what I'm here for. I want to express my feelings, keep it real and progress as a person, all the weird things an artist wants,” she said.
USA Today notes Ariana was by no means new to showbusiness when her debut album, Yours Truly, was released last year.
In 2008, she appeared in 13 on Broadway, and she’s also starred in Nickelodeon sitcoms Victorious and Sam & Cat.
And while The Way hitmaker has a special affinity for live performance, for the moment she’s more than content reigning over music charts.
“I’m such a theatre geek and would love to go back to live theatre, but I want to do pop music forever," she gushed.
The star admitted, however, she does suffer from self-doubt.
While her hit single, Problem, has sold 2.9 million downloads, she confesses she initially wanted to toss the collaboration with rapper Iggy Azalea from her record.
"I had the opposite reaction," she explained of her response to the surprise hit. "I said, 'I don't like this song. It annoys me.' I would go back and forth with conflicting feelings. I was singing high and wanted to show my lower register. But when it was done, I realised it was so special."
