Wiz Khalifa promoted suicide prevention on the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.
The Black And Yellow rapper turned up to the ceremony wearing black pants and a white collared shirt emblazoned with graphics culling up images of newspaper clippings and topped with a phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
ET Online reports it was not immediately clear why he chose the look.
However, it came just a day after a man was reportedly shot and killed backstage at his concert, according to the outlet.
Wiz subsequently took to Twitter to discuss the loss of life.
"This was a senseless tragedy. Violence is never the answer. My prayers go out to the victim's family,' he wrote.
The star, 26, is currently promoting his fifth studio album, Blacc Hollywood.
He recently spoke about the wide range of sounds on the album, including his track with Nicki Minaj, True Colors, in which the pair put a spin on Cyndi Lauper's 1986 hit.
The lyricist, real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz, released his debut album in 2006 and became known for hits like Work Hard, Play Hard and Remember You.
But he recently explained it's important to him to challenge himself by making different types of music, and he hopes he can do something to inspire others.
'Me, I make different types of songs. Some are for the club, some are for the smokers and some are very inspirational and motivational,' he recently told MTV News.
'Songs like This Plane and things like that with a message behind it and that's what True Colors is more down the line of,' he said.
