Selena Gomez is apparently finding it hard to make a clean break from Justin Bieber.

The American chart topper has dated Justin on and off since 2010, but many believe their last split earlier this year was for good.

Selena went on to check into rehab earlier this year for non-substance related issues, and friends now hope she's on the road to recovery.

"She wanted to move on from that toxic relationship," an insider revealed to People magazine about her rehab stint.

Although Selena and Justin have been spotted out together in recent months, the insider claims the Come & Get It singer is no longer talking to her former beau.

"She did not get back together with him. She knows it's not healthy, but it's not easy to make that clean break," the source added.

To help her get over the split once and for all, Selena jetted off to France with pal Cara Delevingne to celebrate her 22nd birthday last month.

Photos of the pair frolicking on a yacht showed a happy looking Selena and businessman Tommy Chiabra, who friends have credited with helping get over her love woes.

"It was great for her to get away and just have fun," the friend said. "She's in a good place."

As well as her musical offerings, Selena is focusing on new acting opportunities. Musical drama Rudderless, co-starring Billy Crudup and William H. Macy, hits cinemas in October after debuting art this year's Sundance Film Festival.

She also took home the gong for Ultimate Choice Award at Sunday's 2014 Teen Choice Awards.

"I cannot thank you guys, amidst all the stuff we deal with personally, you remind me what's important: giving and caring about each other," Selena gushed in an emotional acceptance speech.
