Lucy Hale never doubted her dreams would become reality.

The 25-year-old star is best known for her role as Aria Montgomery on television show Pretty Little Liars and has occasionally shown off her singing talents in episodes of the ABC Family drama. Earlier this year, she made her mark on the music industry with the release of her debut country record Road Between. The star and her mother never doubted her ability and that she would end up where she is today.

“My mom has taught me to think positive. My mom and I, we never had a backup plan,” the singer told Seventeen Magazine.

“There was never a doubt like, ‘Lucy, if this doesn’t… we’re gonna do X,Y, and Z.’ It was always just, ‘Why wouldn’t it work out? Of course it will!’

“I always knew I would do what I love, and there was no doubt that I would be happy.”

The actress always dreamed of becoming a famous singer, but after appearing on reality show American Juniors in 2003 she landed roles on TV. And although the performer took a detour from her musical career, she remained certain she’d come back to it and never stopped working at her goal, an attitude she advises her fans to have too.

“Everyone has something that you like about yourself, and focus on what you love to do. Music is what helped me when I was dealing with a lot of difficult things—so whatever it is for you, just focus on that,” she said.

Lucy spent two-and-a-half years making Road Between. The first single from Lucy's album, You Sound Good to Me, was released in January and hit number 21 in the US country charts.

“It's positive thinking—you create it [success],” she explained to the magazine. “But it’s also hard work, and it's also taken a lot of people helping me—I have a really great team behind me. I’m very lucky.”
