Lionel Richie thinks Chris Brown is “too gifted”.

The legendary performer picked up the Lifetime Achievement accolade at the BET Awards over the weekend. The 65-year-old knows what it takes to have longevity in the music business and he hopes that troubled Chris can overcome his demons and make use of his gift.

“I think he's great. I just think that again, we go through our ups and downs and our struggles, but his talent, his talent is undeniable,” he told Associated Press.

"It's just, I just want him to just land and make sure he enjoys the second half of his talent. Because he's too gifted. He'll be all right. He's just going through his changes."

The 25-year-old singer has recently been released from prison after spending 108 days inside for reportedly breaking the rules of a rehabilitation facility where he was court-ordered to seek help for anger issues.

Chris made his return to the stage at the BET Awards to perform his track, Loyal, with Lil Wayne and Tyga. However, host Chris Rock couldn’t help but take a jab at the pop star before he grabbed the mic and showed off his moves.

“Chris Brown just signed a new deal, too bad it was a plea deal,” Chris Rock laughed while introducing the embattled singer.

The Forever singer has hopefully turned over a new leaf since his release and is focusing on his music. Shortly after his performance, he took to his Twitter account to reveal a new track he has recorded with Usher and Rick Ross.

“OFFICIAL PREMIERE of my new track #NEWFLAME featuring @Usher & @rickyrozay!! #TeamBreezy listen here,” he tweeted.
