50 Cent promises G-Unit will 'work like we need a record deal' on the group's new mixtape.

The rapper formed the hip-hop group before releasing his own chart-topping debut in 2003, followed months later by G-Unit's Beg For Mercy.

More than a decade later Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Tony Yayo are working with 50 on a few new tracks ahead of the group's upcoming full release. And 50 promises to bring that same hunger to their latest collaboration.

'You'll see a mixtape come out before [the album]. The material that you see us putting out, it's just getting back to the way we did it from the very beginning. We're gonna start over and work like we need a record deal,' he told MTV News. 'But while we're putting out that music, we're making the coolest original content and letting that be there for the actual album,' he said.

Fifty admitted the rappers have yet to record what will be the album's signature track. But he promises fans won't have to wait long for their new sound.

'We're still trying to find the song that defines the record and then we'll be able to work off that record. The formula we used to make albums in the past [is] I'd actually come up with one joint, one song that kinda felt like, 'This is what the record should be like,' and then sequence the rest of the record to follow that,' he explained, adding, 'We've got some interesting stuff already, [and] it doesn't take long because having that many moving parts, creatively everybody kinda keeps up with each other."
