Demi Lovato laughs more when she’s sober.

The 21-year-old checked into rehab in 2010 to deal with “physical and emotional issues” and has admitted to drinking excessively and using cocaine in the past.

She’s now turned her life around and only wishes she’d done it sooner.

“Sometimes I look back and wish I would've realized I never had to drink or use to have fun.. I laugh more sober than I ever did wasted. (sic),” she posted on Twitter.

The talented singer is very open with her followers on the social networking site and recently ranted at “bullying” paparazzi. However, in an interview with Seventeen magazine, she admitted she’s started to think twice before she tweets.

“I’m impulsive when it comes to fighting back, but I’ve learned to reel it in. Tweeting without thinking does more harm than good,” she mused to the publication. “So take a second. Journal what you want to say, and then if you still feel the same later, that’s when you can tweet it.”

Demi also posted a picture of herself with a friend, showing a ‘then-and-now’ of the pair pouting at the camera. She also acknowledged how far they’ve both come.

“7 years later we're still duck-facin'.. Expect this time we've got our sh*t together.. Reunion with @keithcarlisle (sic),” she captioned the snap.

The starlet has had plenty of support from her fans over the years, in turn helping them by writing a book about her struggles. She’s optimistic about the future.

“Since I went to treatment, there have been days when it’s felt really easy, and I’ve felt great about where I am. But then I have moments when it’s not. That’s life. You can’t just take your mind and your body into the shop and get it fixed. It doesn’t come out repaired. It’s not like a car. It takes time - pace yourself. Every day is a new opportunity to change your life and be who you want to be,” she smiled.
