Demi Lovato is 'inspired' by the people she has in her life.
The Skyscraper singer has struggled over the years with bulimia and self injury. After receiving treatment in rehab, she was also diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Since then, Demi has made a point of surrounding herself with the right people.
'I like to have friends in my life who believe they're going places and are working toward their dreams,' the 21-year-old told Seventeen magazine. 'When you're growing and the people around you aren't, that's when you have to start shedding them. I've done that a lot over the past few years, but it has been so worth it, because the people in my life today inspire me to keep being creative, to have fun, and to be a good person.'
Demi has been open about the nervous breakdown she had during that difficult time. While she has been able to bounce back and go on to have successful albums and role on the American version of The X-Factor, Demi knows she is happier in herself regardless of her fame.
'When I give back, I don't question my self-worth. I know that if my career were to fall apart tomorrow ' even if I were to never have money or fame again ' I'd still have value in my soul, because I know that I can have an effect on someone else's life,' she said.
However the Heart Attack singer knows that she can't get lazy when it comes to her health. Demi finds taking everything one day at a time is the most effective way of living for her.
'Since I went to treatment, there have been days when it's felt really easy, and I've felt great about where I am,' she said. 'But then I have moments when it's not. That's life. It takes time ' pace yourself.'
