Harry Styles has already downloaded Ed Sheeran's album.

The One Direction star is friends with the redheaded British singer, who worked with Harry and the band on several songs including their number one hit Little Things.

Ed's second album x was released worldwide today and the 20-year-old heartthrob has already hit iTunes to grab his copy.

"Obviously. @edsheeran (sic)," he captioned a picture of the download on Instagram.

A few of the boys' fans poked fun at the curly-haired star however, as he had managed to tag an Ed Sheeran fan account rather than his friend's official page.

Ed, 23, has also been asking fans to show their support by purchasing his album. He's hoping they'll stop to pick it up with their everyday buys.

"My brand now album is out now everywhere ! Grab it on iTunes here fanks fanks fanks," he appealed on Twitter.

"It's also in like every single supermarket so grab one when you go and get eggs and milk x (sic)."

x is the follow-up record to 2011's debut +, which hit number one in album charts including the UK and Australia.

Despite the great reaction to +, Ed hadn't had a number one single until Sing, the first track released from x. He had help from Pharrell Williams with the song, which made it to the top spot in the UK and Australia peaked at number 13 in the US.

Ed will also be touring to support x this year.
