Kanye West has called himself a genius and admitted taking four days to perfect his wedding photo.

The hip-hop star took to the stand at the Cannes Lions Festival on Tuesday night to take part in a discussion called Technology, Culture, and Consumer Adoption: Learning to Read the Cultural Landscape.

In the speech the newly-wed artist made a number of standout statements, including that “trends come and go, but cool is forever” and his belief that “if people are saying you're wrong, it's probably a good sign that you're a genius”.

The father also revealed that it took him and his wife Kim Kardashian four days of work to achieve a wedding photo which he felt was “good enough for Instagram”. The pair tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Italy last month and eschewed deals to sell their official shots, instead posting some online.

“Can you imagine telling someone who wants to just Instagram a photo, who’s the number one person on Instagram, ‘We need to work on the colour of the flower wall?’ Or the idea that it’s … How important Kim is to the internet. And the fact the number one most-liked photo [on Instagram] has a kind of aesthetic was a win for what the mission is, which is raising the palette,” the 37-year-old rapper and producer bragged to the audience about his wife’s celebrity status.

Kanye also went on to explain that Vogue photographer Annie Leibovitz pulled out of their wedding.

“I was like, ‘I still want my wedding photos to look like Annie Leibovitz’s photos,’ and we sat there and worked on that photo for four days, because the flowers were off-colour and stuff like that,” he said.

Annie did the couple’s Vogue cover shoot earlier in the year.

Kris Jenner, Kanye’s mother-in-law, attended the speech and Instagrammed a photo of the Yeezus rapper during the talk. The 58-year-old momager captioned the image, ““#winning #kanyewest @stevestoute @bhorowitz0 #cannes #canneslions (sic).”
