Justin Bieber will be charged with criminal vandalism today, it has been claimed.
The 20-year-old singer was accused of pelting his neighbour's home with eggs in January, causing a rumoured $20,000 of damage to the Calabasas, California, property. Since then there has been a lot of speculation over what the star might be charged with, with prosecutors said to be intent on making the allegations a felony.
According to TMZ, Justin will be told he is facing criminal vandalism charges today. However, it remains unknown whether they will be misdemeanour or felony charges. It's claimed many people have been involved in deciding how serious the incident was, with the bosses at the District Attorney's office making the final call.
Although not all the evidence linked to the egging is known, there is a video which has been widely reported that was taken during the incident and seemingly features Justin's voice. The superstar's home was also raided by police in connection to the incident, with surveillance video of him around the time of the egging seized.
In the state of California, a misdemeanour vandalism charge garners a maximum of one year in jail and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted. But a felony has much more serious implications, including a jail sentence of one to three years, a penalty of up to $50,000, and probation.
Justin has been at the centre of a great deal of legal trouble over the last year. Recently he was cleared of claims he had grabbed a woman's phone as she tried to take a photograph of him. He was also arrested for DUI in Miami earlier this year, but is said to have reached a plea deal with cops, which will see him plead guilty to reckless driving and agree to anger management classes.
It's not the only problems the star is facing - videos of him using racist language several years ago were recently released, prompting the star to make several heartfelt apologies.
