Tom Hiddleston will play late country musician Hank Williams in I Saw the Light.
The 33-year-old British actor is well known for his portrayal of superhuman villain Loki in Marvel films like Thor.
And it appears he is taking on an entirely different challenge with his next project, as Deadline reports he will be depicting country music legend Hank in biographical film I Saw the Light.
The late singer died of heart failure at the age of 29 in 1953 at the height of his fame.
According to the website, the movie's plot will 'tell the story of Williams' meteoric rise to fame, and the price that fame took on his personal life'.
It is believed Tom will be singing some of Hank's classic tunes, including Hey Good Lookin', I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, and Your Cheatin' Heart.
Marc Abraham is directing the project and he also wrote the screenplay based off a biography written by author Colin Escott.
Production houses RatPac Entertainment, Bron Studios, and Creative Wealth Media Finance are co-funding the feature.
Director Marc is producing I Saw the Light with Brett Ratner and G. Marq Rosell. Cast and crew are expected to begin filming the movie in Louisiana this October.
Tom has taken on diverse roles in the past in numerous films like War Horse and The Deep Blue Sea.
He is currently shooting Guillermo del Toros new film Crimson Peak, a horror which is slated to reach US theatres on October 16.
