The members of Midnight Oil are ready for a reunion tour but they can't get singer Peter Garrett on board.
Garrett is in the middle of writing his memoir, something that could be more than just your standard rock star bio as Peter went from frontman to a member of Australia's House of Representatives, a position he held from 2004 to 2013. He was also Minister of Environment, Heritage and the Arts.
Drummer Rob Hirst told the site Faster Louder that "Peter [Garrett]’s writing his memoirs at the moment so that might take a while, but I think everyone’s up for it. Bonesy’s [Bones Hillman, bass] living in Nashville, and by all accounts playing better than ever – the callouses on his fingers must be enormous by now! And of course Martin [Rotsey], Jim [Moginie] and I all play in The Break, so everyone’s around. We’ll just see down the track. Hopefully it won’t be so long that we won’t be able to put on the sort of show that we’d like to put on."
Midnight Oil first formed in 1972 as Farm and released their self-titled debut album in 1978. Their biggest successes in the U.S. were the albums Diesel and Dust (1987 / #21) and Blue Sky Mining (1990 / #20). Their single Blue Sky Mine hit number 1 on the U.S. Mainstream and Modern Rock Charts in 1990 while 1987's Beds Are Burning went to 17 on the Hot 100.
