Robin Thicke thanked estranged wife Paula Patton at the Billboard Music Awards.

The 37-year-old pop star, who split from his wife of nearly nine years in February, was rumoured to have planned a grand gesture to her at the annual prize-giving.

Taking the stage to accept the award for Top Hot 100 Song for his hit single Blurred Lines, Robin made sure her name didn’t go without mention.

“Most importantly, I’d like to thank my wife for her love and support, and for putting up with me all these years,” he told the crowd.

Robin was also reportedly planning to perform a new track called Get Her Back later in the evening. The song is rumoured to be a plea to Paula following their split earlier this year.

Robin and Paula have never discussed the reasons for their split, although he has made no secret of his desire to work things out.

Shortly after their separation was confirmed, Robin told the crowd at one of his shows that he'd penned his track Lost Without U about Paula.

"For y'all that don't know, me and my wife separated, but I'm trying to get my girl back. She's a good woman," he said.
Paula meanwhile discussed the breakup during a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine, although she refused to badmouth the star.

"We've known each other since we were teenagers. All I can tell you is there's a deep love there - always was, and always will be,” she said.
