Brooklyn indie-pop stalwarts The Pains of Being Pure at Heart reveal the animated video to their new single, 'Until The Sun Explodes'.
Taken from their forthcoming third album, Days of Abandon, the video sees the band embark upon on an animated cosmic journey through time and space, with a result not unlike to works of legendary cartoonist, Hanna Barbera.
Due out in the UK on June 2 via the esteemed Fierce Panda Records, Days of Abandon comes off the back of two critically-acclaimed records - 2009's self-titled debut and its 2011 follow-up, Belong - records that demonstrated the group's ability to shift musical registers from bedroom pop daydream to Alternative National anthems.
The album was recorded at new Brooklyn studio House Under Magic which is owned by longtime Pains cohort Danny Taylor (ZaZa). Produced by Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Patrick Wolf, Cloud Boat) and mixed by Charlie Hugall at London's Engine Room (Swim Deep, Florence And the Machine), the result is the band’s most musically sophisticated work to date, channeling the gilded pop optimism of Aztec Camera, House of Love and Saint Etienne, while maintaining the Pains penchant for earworm melodies and emotional candor.
“Days of Abandon was a chance to push beyond Belong’s universal style of songwriting into something that was far more personal and true to my ideals,” says the band's Kip Berman. “I wanted the music to be joyful, lush and full of possibility, even if the subjects were often more painful to confront."
The band is currently on tour in the US with Ablebody and the much-hyped Fear of Men. UK dates follow later this year, with shows as follows:
