Jack White and Neil Young made recording history on television on Monday night when Jack pressed the live Neil Young performance on vinyl before the studio audience.
Young performed Willie Nelson’s ‘Crazy’ from his new ‘A Letter Home’ album while White recorded the song direct to vinyl using his portable 1947 Third Man Records Voice-O-Graph booth recording machine.
White restored the 1947 recording technology and set it up in the Nashville HQ of his Third Man Records label.
Young recorded his new album ‘A Letter Home’ at the Nashville studio using the booth.
The album sounds like a 40s recording, something Young intended.
Young covers songs by Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Phil Ochs and Willie Nelson on the record.
Neil Young ‘A Letter Home’ will be released through Warner Music in Australia on May 23.
After the Fallon show Neil Young also performed ‘Since I Met You Baby’ for the studio audience.
