A new event in the music industry awards calendar is being held next month (June). The MOGOs (Music of Ginger Origin) are being held for the first time in Manchester at The Printworks as part of national Redhead Day UK.

The MOGOs consist of four categories: best ginger male musician, best ginger female musician, best honorary redhead by choice and best song with redhead lyrics. Shortlisted nominees include household names such as Ed Sheeran and Gerri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) as well as newcomers Karl William Lund, Chloe Howl and more established gingers Mick Hucknell and Cilla Black.

The public are able to vote for their favourite in each category by visiting www.musicofgingerorigin.co.uk . Entries close on 1st June and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which will be held on 7th June at Redhead Day UK. Everyone with red hair gets the option to enter a free prize draw to win a stack of ginger themed goodies.

The awards were the brainchild of Ginger With Attitude, who sell clothing that features a range of redheaded characters, with quirky, tongue-in-cheek humour.

'As the MOBOs (Music of Black Origin) come of age with their 18th birthday, it's time for their younger (and redder) sibling, the MOGOs to come to the fore,' comments Barry Singleton of Ginger With Attitude. 'The rising prominence of performers such as Kate Nash, and of course our hero Ed Sheeran, proves that ginger power is on the rise in the music industry. In fact, many performers such as Florence Welch and Paloma Faith are actually choosing to become redheads.'

The winner of each category will receive a specially commissioned glass MOGO trophy presented by close-up magician Rob Ne Kros. Also performing at the awards will be fellow redheads and singer songwriters Karl William Lund, Caroline England and former 'The Voice' contestant Denise Morgan.

2014 marks the second ever Redhead Day UK. Hosted at Waxy O'Connors in The Printworks centre in Manchester. The event is expected to attract hundreds of redheads from across Britain and beyond.

Jessica Shailes, owner of Everything for Redheads and organiser of Redhead Day UK explains how the event first came about. 'I visited the Redhead Day Holland in 2012 and was amazed at the popularity of the event which was attended by thousands of redheads. It left me wondering why the UK didn't have a similar event and so I decided to set one up. Redhead Day UK aims to celebrate what it means to be ginger - and a little bit different. We even welcome non-gingers to come along and join in the fun.'

Last year's UK event attracted over a hundred visitors from as far afield as Poland. This year's event promises to be even more successful, with activities including competitions, giveaways, magic, music, discounts ' and of course the MOGOs themselves.
