Ed Sheeran recalls the “random experience” he and Usher shared on Passover.

The 23-year-old British singer released Sing last month, the lead single produced by Pharrell Williams off his new album Multiply.

During Jewish holiday Passover, which began April 14 and ended April 22, Ed had quite a magical exchange with R&B legend Usher.

“I was at a Passover dinner and sat next to Usher, it was quite random. I met him once before, but never enough to be like ‘Yo what’s up man?’ but he went over to me with his phone and he’s like ‘Yo check it out’ and he downloaded ‘Sing,’ ” Ed recounted to BBC Radio 1.

“And he was like ‘Yo, man, do you want to get in the studio sometime?’ and I was like ‘Yes, Usher, I would love to get into the studio sometime.’”

The recording took place swiftly after their interaction, as Ed texted Usher at 1am the day after the conversation with music ideas.

After the late night exchange, The A Team singer found himself in the studio with Usher, Diplo and Skrillex in a flash.

“[Usher was] like, ‘Yeah, we are just getting started,’” Ed recalled of his experience in the recording booth. “And I went down and we made this awesome song. I had this guitar idea on my phone it was literally just a voice note and I emailed it to Skrillex then he took it in sampled it and made a beat out of it, and then me and Usher just went back and forth on melody ideas and lyric ideas.”

Ed confirmed the as-yet untitled collaboration will most likely appear on Usher’s next album, which is due for release later on this year.
