Paul Simon and Edie Brickell were arrested in New Canaan, CT on Saturday evening for disorderly conduct.

The couple were first under suspicion of a domestic dispute after police responded to their home on Saturday at 8:20 PM. According to the NY Daily News, the incident started with an argument and a shoving match before Brickell’s mother called the police.

During the arraignment, both told the judge that there is no danger in their being together and that the fight was atypical of their relationship. Simon said “We’re going to go home and watch our son play baseball. … Neither of us has any fear, or any reason to be threatened.”

Brickell agreed, saying “He’s no threat to me at all.”

The couple’s lawyer, Allan Cramer, said that the couple had a disagreement which Simon did not want to discuss. Brickell blocked Simon from leaving which led to the altercation. Cramer said “Brickell is from Texas and he is from Queens, and you know they have different ways of dealing with issues. I was talking to her and she said, ‘We’d been married for 25 years and we’ve had maybe three or four arguments’.”

Brickell and Simon have been married since 1992 and have three sons, aged 16 to 20. Simon has recently toured with Sting while Brickell has been working with Steve Martin on albums and a Broadway show.
