Wiz Khalifa's main pre-show ritual is to “smoke a lot of weed”.

The rapper recently announced his Under the Influence of Music 2014 Summer Tour, which will see him take to the stage with stars including Young Jeezy and Tyga. While promoting the live event, Wiz was quizzed about how he prepares to perform.

"I listen to old-school music and smoke a lot of weed,” he said on US talk show Chelsea Lately.

Wiz has always been open about his marijuana use, claiming to spend around $10,000 a month on the drug in 2010. That has changed though, with the star now claiming to get it for free because he has his own brand.

While he likes to relax in his spare time, the star takes work incredibly seriously. He doesn’t want people to assume he lazes around all day, insisting his upbringing made him realise how important it is to strive to be the best.

“I’m really into what I do just in general. I love music. I love creating and just being around creative people. My team and producers and just my fans always, they’re just driving me to do bigger and better things. That and my family of course,” he explained. “Being from Pittsburgh, I really didn’t have too much growing up, so I had to make everything on my own. Just having that instilled in me, I think is going to last for the rest of my life.”

Despite being happy to discuss his cannabis use, Wiz has always been clear that he isn’t promoting it as a lifestyle. Several years ago he was asked about whether it concerns him that young fans might hear his music and decide to follow his example.

“I don't say, 'Yo, get up and do that.' I said that's what I do, and I tell you what I do while I'm doing it. I'm not trying to push drugs on anybody," he insisted to MTV News’ RapFix Live.

"I thought weed was bad for a minute. When I was younger, I thought it was bad, but I got to a point where it worked for me. It don't work for everybody else. People gotta stay free, people need jobs, people got parents that probably wouldn't be with it, so don't ruin your life trying to be like me. That's my advice."
