Kelis says culinary school was “one of the best” experiences of her life.

The 34-year-old singer is currently preparing to release her sixth studio album, which is entitled FOOD.

Kelis loves all kinds of cuisines and she decided to pursue her passion for cooking by putting herself through chef masterclasses at Le Cordon Bleu.

“I went to culinary school in 2008 and it was one of the best times of my life,” she told People magazine.

“I took the time and effort to actually study and not just proclaim myself a chef, but actually become one.”

Kelis recently launched a line of Caribbean jerk sauce called Feast.

She decided to create the recipe after dealing with an acute bout of homesickness.

“I’m from the East Coast and I’d come out to L.A. and everybody started recommending these Jamaican restaurants to me and I was mildly let down,” Kelis recalled. “I realised how much I took the jerk that I grew up eating in New York for granted. I was craving it, so I really wanted to make a great jerk sauce.”

The singer’s new album FOOD will hit shelves April 18 and is the first LP since her 2010 offering Flesh Tone.

Kelis previously revealed she is happy taking time to record tracks because the pressures of Hollywood don’t impact her.

"Honestly? I have no concept of what's going on out there," she told British magazine Pride.

"It's not like I make an effort not to know, I just don't know - it's not even a hard thing to do! Part of me thinks that it's just healthier that way, but I'm also oblivious by nature.”
