Dv8 Academy the brand new East London 16-19 school for the creative industries, held its biggest open day to date just last week, helping young people aged 16-19 realise their potential within the worlds of Media, Fashion, Performing Arts and Music.
Already being dubbed the ‘The Brit School Of East London’ The intention of the school is to deliver an academy that ‘re-imagines education’ for the 21st century; one that will be regarded by young people, parents and employers as one of the leading providers in London.
Young people from 14 of London’s boroughs attended the open evening to meet creative industry leaders from ITN, Hackney Empire, Barcroft Media, Island Records and Sony Music. International superstar Jessie J also dropped by to give some words of encouragement to the aspiring performers and young creative’s in attendance.
Held at enterprise hub The Trampery in Hackney, DV8 Academy opened the doors to a world of creative careers with interactive workshops and master classes including an ITN workshop on reading the news and a fashion workshop customising T-shirts in 30 minutes. These sessions allowed students to take part in practical workshops, meet ex-learners and spend face-to-face time with CEO’s, Event Managers and Managing Editors.
The event closed with a Q&A panel that allowed inquisitive young people to grill Jessie J, ITV Newsreader Charlene White, Sam Barcroft of Barcroft Media, Robin Elias, Managing Editor of ITN. Social Entrepreneur Fusion and young fashion designer Kenny Annan-Jonathan of Playdot Apparel about what it takes to make & break a successful creative career in music, fashion and media!
