Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly looking forward to being a "socialite" now she is single.

The 42-year-old actress announced her split from husband Chris Martin on her website Goop last month. She and the Coldplay frontman tied the knot in 2003 and have daughter Apple, nine, and son Moses, seven, together.

Although they are still thought to be living together, Gwyneth is believed to be embracing her new status and planning outings with her single friends in Hollywood.

"They've agreed to keep things civil for the kids' sakes and both say that they'll wait at least three months before being seen with anyone else. But Gwyneth is excited at the prospect of dating again," a source told British magazine Closer.

"She's got lots of female friends, like Cameron Diaz, who love the single life. She can be the socialite she wants to be and mingle in different circles. After years of struggling to make a decision about the marriage, it's a relief to them both to call it quits. She's glad it's over and she can draw a line and move on. She feels free."

Before they decided to end their marriage the couple reportedly visited a three-day retreat at the end of last year.

However, it seems the getaway in northern California didn't serve well in salvaging their relationship.

"Gwyneth felt she'd changed over the years but Chris hadn't. They'd just been growing more and more apart. He's very down-to-earth and accused her of living a totally different life, saying she was happier in her glamorous A-list world than being with him," the source added.

"The retreat was very spiritual. They did a couple's meditation on the top of a mountain to 'reach their highest point' as well as writing letters to each other. But, unfortunately, it didn't help. Gwyneth said Chris was there in body but not in mind. It was like he'd shut himself off completely. They'd grown apart too much by then."
