Miley Cyrus broke down on stage Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old pop star is mourning the loss of her Alaskan Klee Kai, Floyd, who recently passed away.

She paid tribute to the pup during a KISS 108 FM sound check for fans in Boston, Massachusetts, and performed an emotional rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide dedicated to the pooch.

“My dog who is - I shouldn't say he was my favourite - but he was my favourite, he passed away," Celebuzz reports she told the audience.

"I just wanted to do this song for him because we used to always listen to Fleetwood Mac together and this was his favourite song."

Miley reportedly turned her back to the audience at one point to wipe away her tears, and was later comforted on stage by her sister, Noah.

The singer has meanwhile filled her Twitter feed with notes about Floyd, and apologised to fans before the show, admitting she’s lost and “broken” without him.

“I'm sorry in advance if I am not myself tomorrow Boston. I will try my best to be my best,” she wrote.

“I know I don't mean it but I wish he would've taken me with him this is unbearable. What am I gonna do without him?”

Miley admitted hours later she was still feeling “miserable”.

“What you don't understand is he's not in a better place the best place he could be was with me... where he was loved more than anything,” she told fans.

Miley will continue touring the US through the end of the month. She’s scheduled to take her Bangerz Tour to Europe in the beginning of May, wrapping up the concert series in Madrid on June 17.
