Simon Cowell has admitted he and Lauren Silverman will happily encourage their five-week-old son Eric to pursue a career in music, but "wouldn't do anything with him" until at least his third birthday.

Simon Cowell is preparing his son for a future in showbiz.

The media mogul - whose partner Lauren Silverman gave birth to Eric five weeks ago - would be happy to encourage his baby's talents from the age of three.

Speaking on US radio, he said: "I would say: 'Do what I do and go behind the scenes'.

"But if he can sing, Lauren and I have agreed that we wouldn't do anything with him until he is at least three years old.

"Lauren is already teaching him how to sing and dance ... Funnily enough the only time I have heard him really cry is when she started to sing!"

Despite recently becoming a father for the first time, the 'X Factor' boss has insisted he has no intention of retiring from his TV career because he is achieving his childhood dreams.

Asked how long he wants to remain in the spotlight, he responded: "Probably another 50 of 60 years ... I really do love my job.

"It is what I wanted to do as a kid. The fact I can do it, I do pinch myself on a daily basis.

"I'm having fun doing it and the people I work with have become good friends of mine ... There is nothing really much to be miserable about, to be honest with you."
