Pharrell Williams was “unapologetically quirky” with music on his new album.
The 40-year-old singer released his second solo offering earlier this week and so far his songs are getting rave reviews.
During a listening session hosted by AskMen.com, Pharrell revealed what he was aiming for while creating G I R L.
“[I wanted to be] unapologetically quirky and honest,” he was captured on video telling the small crowd of fans in attendance.
In fact Pharrell’s analysis of the tunes he wrote were equally as eccentric as his intent for the record.
The star claims he used a lot of intuition during his artistic process.
“I made this album with my eyes closed,” he explained.
“I meant like that the actual litmus test for this album when I’m making it was when I close my eyes do I still love it?”
Pharrell also explained the story behind the entry song on G I R L, which is entitled Marilyn Monroe.
He claims his lyrics were written to shatter ideals of beauty.
"[I] sort of [wanted to] reverse the connotation behind these statuesque standards of what beauty has to be," Pharrell said. "That which makes you different is actually the thing that makes you special."
He concluded the talk with a big acknowledgment of all the women in his life who inspired G I R L.
"And that's was the women ... women were my muse,” he shared.
