Simon Cowell imagines sobriety would be “boring”.

The 54-year-old X Factor music mogul welcomed his son Eric with partner Lauren Silverman on February 14.

But although he is now a father for the first time, quitting drinking and smoking is not on the immediate agenda.

“[My comedian friend Harry Hill] trained as a doctor, he doesn't like my theory that although I smoke and drink I take supplements, so I'll be alright,” Simon told the Radio Times.

“If I tried to cut out cigarettes completely, I would have a real problem: too boring. It's the same with drinking.

“I'm pretty good at cutting back when I need to.”

In fact, Simon makes it a point to imbibe drink and smoke cigarettes only at specific times in the day.

“I have this expression, 'You never eat Indian food for breakfast'. I always think there is a time in your day when you can be creative,” he explained.

“For me, one or two in the morning, couple of vodka and limes, couple of cigarettes, I'm in a calm place: I can think. I always say, 'One good idea a year can pay for your next ten years.' And that's all you need to do.”

Simon has previously gushed over baby Eric, his first child ever.

“I never knew how much love and pride I would feel,” he wrote to his 9.5 million Twitter followers shortly after his tyke was born.
