One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson has blasted parents who slammed the band’s "explicit" lyrics.
UK newspaper The Mirror reports a mother and father recently yanked their two teenagers from a choir performance upon discovering they were going to sing Live While We’re Young with fellow students.
The parents were reportedly upset by a line in the song: “'Tonight let's get some, and live while we're young,” insisting it was too sexually explicit for the teens to sing.
After hearing the story, Louis took to Twitter to address the controversy. And he didn’t have kind words for the parents.
"Dear Mr and Mrs Stone, I'm deeply saddened by your complaint to Chelsea High School regarding our lyrics...” he wrote on Sunday.
"I hope the two of you 'get some' very soon :) #cryingparents.”
Louis got plenty of support despite the cheeky nature of the post. The Mirror reports he received over 50,000 retweets within the first hours of the remark.
The parents had yet to respond publicly at press time, but had apparently sent a “strongly worded” letter to Chelsea School District in Michigan about the 1D track, insisting it “violated the district’s policy for sexual innuendos”.
One Direction has meanwhile been enjoying some time off since Christmas ahead of their Where We Are Tour.
Aside from addressing controversy, Louis has been spending his downtime playing for the reserve squad for his hometown football team Doncaster Rovers.
The 22-year-old took the field in a charity match against Rotherham United late last month.
The match was in aid of Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, which offers care and support to youths with a short life expectancy in Louis’ home county, Yorkshire.
