Drake has been formally dropped by his publicity team.

The 27-year-old rapper caused a media furore after lambasting Rolling Stone on Twitter for putting a Philip Seymour Hoffman memorial story on the cover of an issue in place of an exclusive interview he did for the magazine.

And apparently this didn't go down well with his former PR firm ID, who set up the Rolling Stone feature.

'Drake is an incredibly talented artist and we're proud of our results for 'Nothing Was The Same' and Would You Like A Tour? We wish him the best,' ID-PR wrote in a statement to Billboard.

ID was initially hired by Drake to promote his third album and his Would You Like A Tour? series of performances.

On February 13 Drake went on his Twitter account to express his loathing for the media after discovering his face wasn't on the cover of Rolling Stone.

'I'm disgusted with that. RIP to Philip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil,' he wrote in one message.

Drake also claimed some of the article's content, especially comments related to Kanye West, were simply untrue.

He then went on to declare his position on doing interviews in the future.

'I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone. They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue,' Drake wrote.

'I'm done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That's the only way my message gets across accurately.'
