The Swedish superstar artist Avicii has taken house music to a whole new level as his global smash hit ‘Wake Me Up’ has broken the all-time-record of most streams on music service Spotify.

‘Wake Me Up’ has now hit 200 million streams on Spotify, surpassing ‘Radioactive’ by Imagine Dragons (currently the second-most played track on Spotify with 183m streams), making it the first track ever to reach this milestone, and setting a new world record on Spotify.

Avicii’s hit was the fastest song ever to reach the 100 million streams landmark back in September of last year. What’s more, at the time of release “Wake Me Up” reached number one in all 28 Spotify markets*.

The song has on average been streamed around 850,000 times per day, and the top ten cities streaming the song the most are; Stockholm, Oslo, Gothenburg, London, New York, Madrid, Malmo, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Los Angeles.

“I’m so excited to be the first artist to reach 200 million streams on Spotify. I’ve had an amazing year, so a massive thanks to all of my fans!” says Avicii.
