Katy Perry has "shocked" casting directors by being invited to audition for Vin Diesel's latest movie.

The quirky pop star has had a relatively small amount of acting experience, most notably voicing Smurfette in The Smurfs movie franchise.

But after Vin reached out to the Dark Horse singer online, where he suggested she could be perfect for a role in his new xXx film, Katy seems to have jumped at the chance.

"Everyone is a bit shocked, but Katy has been told she can come and try out for the part," an LA casting agent revealed to Britain's Daily Star newspaper.

"Vin took her comments on Twitter very seriously, and feels if she really wants to be an actress then she should step up to the plate."

Vin's first xXx film came out in 2002 and centres on his character Xander Cage, an extreme sports athlete recruited by the government on a special mission.

It seems the 46-year-old actor thinks Katy could be the perfect person to play the object of his affection in the next instalment, thought to be titled xXx: The return of Xander Cage.

"As you know, the new xXx script finally comes in next month... and just this morning people are suggesting Katy Perry as the new X girl...(sic)” Vin posted on his Facebook page.

"YES VIN DIESEL (sic)," was Katy's reaction on Twitter.

And now sources say the wheels are most definitely in motion. And if all goes to plan, 29-year-old Katy will be screen testing for the role as soon as she can.

"The audition is lined up for the next few weeks depending on Katy’s schedule," the casting agent added.
