Kate Hudson's representative has slammed speculation her relationship is on the rocks.

The actress has been dating Muse frontman Matt Bellamy in 2010 and they have a two-year-old son called Bingham together. They got engaged in April 2011 but as yet haven't set a wedding date.

New York Daily News claims they have been struggling of late because while Matt likes to be in his native UK, Kate is happier in Los Angeles.

"Matt is pretty down-to-earth and happy in England, while Kate is very LA-focused,” a source told the publication. “They are leading separate lives. It hasn’t been working out the way they planned and they’ve been trying very hard for the sake of their son.”

While Matt's spokesperson didn't get back to the publication with a comment, Kate's representative was quick to comment.

"It isn’t true," the professional said.

Further fuel was added to the allegations as the actress and her musician beau haven't been seen at public events together much of late.

Kate's work schedule is also intense, with the 34-year-old star having three movies which are due to start shooting at the moment. It means she will likely not have that much time to spend at the $6 million home she and Matt share in London. The musician is also busy thanks to a series of planned shows with his band.

Kate has always been open about her views on marriage. She is no rush to walk down the aisle having previously been wed to The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, who she divorced in 2007.

She was raised by her mother Goldie Hawn and her long-term partner Kurt Russell, who have never tied the knot.

"No, I’m planning nothing right now. I’m so busy, we’ve been so busy, and it’s been great. I come from an unconventional family... My parents aren’t married," she explained in January.

The star explained that when her big day comes she wants it to be perfect, meaning she will need a lot of time to plan.
One person who can't wait for the wedding bells is her son with Chris, ten-year-old Ryder.

"I think [Ryder] looks forward to more the party than actually the idea of us getting married. He seems to like have it really planned out what he’s wearing. He wants to wear a neon green tux," she laughed last year.
