Sue Cassidy, wife of singer David Cassidy, has filed for divorce. The couple has been married for 23 years and together for 28.
TMZ was the first to report the story and was told by Sue "This has been looming for some time. I am truly heartbroken that our marriage is ending."
David and Sue's has, by far, been the most successful of the singer's three marriages. Although exact dates are very sketchy, he was first married to actress Kay Lenz from 1977 until sometime between 1981 and 1983.
He then married South African sportswoman Meryl Tanz from 1984 to sometime in 1985 or 1986.
A separate relationship with Sherry Benedon produced his actress/daughter Katie Cassidy, who was born in 1986.
Cassidy and the former Sue Shifrin married on March 30, 1991, almost two months after their son, Beau, was born. It was last August that word first came out that the couple had separated leading up to today's divorce filing.
It is not known whether the split is due to David's ongoing alcohol problem which has led to three DUI arrests, on November 3, 2010 in Florida, August 21, 2013 outside Albany, NY and, once again, on January 10, 2014 in Los Angeles. He is currently being treated in a rehabilitation facility.
