Justin Bieber may face a felony penalty for allegedly throwing eggs.
The 19-year-old singer’s Calabasas, California home was raided by police last month who were looking for egg-pelting evidence after a neighbour accused Justin of causing $20,000 worth of damage to his home.
And according to TMZ, the teenager potentially faces severe punishment should he be prosecuted for the crime.
“The L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. has just sent the Justin Bieber case to the L.A. County D.A., and the cops are strongly recommending prosecution for FELONY vandalism over the egg attack,” the website writes.
Authorities performed the forced search on January 9 and Justin’s friend Lil Za was arrested on-site for felony drug possession.
A cop close to the case believes the evidence compiled against Justin unequivocally merits a felony charge.
"I went to the D.A.'s Office today with the paperwork, and I want a felony,” Lt. Dave Thompson told the outlet.
“Of course I want a felony."
In the state of California, a misdemeanour vandalism charge garners a maximum of one year in jail and up to a $10,000 fine if convicted. But a felony has much more serious implications, including a jail sentence of one to three years, a penalty of up to $50,000, and probation.
The pop heartthrob is in a lot of legal trouble currently, as he has pending violations in more than one country to battle.
He was arrested in Miami, Florida on January 23 after police say they caught the singer drag racing on a residential street.
Justin was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an invalid licence and he is currently out on $2,500 bail.
In addition to the drink driving charge, the Canadian crooner has been formally indicted for the assault of a limousine driver in Toronto.
He was also charged with illegally spray-painting graffiti in Rio de Janeiro by Brazilian police in November.
