Chris Brown dodged jail time on Monday.
The 24-year-old singer faced Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Brandlin for a hearing on his assault case in Washington, D.C., stemming from allegations he punched a man in the US capitol last October.
TMZ reports Los Angeles prosecutors asked the magistrate to send Chris to jail for the alleged offense, citing that the star violated the terms of his probation stemming from the star’s 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
The outlet reports the LA District Attorney has reviewed the D.C. case and interviewed witnesses, determining there is probable cause to believe Chris is guilty.
Prosecutors claimed in court “Brown's violent behavior continues to increase in severity and frequency" and that the singer poses "an increasing danger to society”, according to the website.
While Judge Brandlin revoked Chris probation in December, he declined to make changes to the sentence at the DA’s request.
The judge instead ruled Chris should complete his 90-day stint in rehab for anger management, noting that the star appears to be making progress.
The Washington, D.C. case is ongoing, with TMZ reporting earlier this month Chris had rejected a plea deal that would have reduced the misdemeanour assault charge he faces.
Chris has previously spoken out about how he believes he’s being treated unfairly.
“For me, I think it's more of a power trip for the DA,” he told UK newspaper The Guardian last October.
