Carly Rae Jepsen has lost her legal battle.
The 28-year-old singer was sued along with other songwriters of her hit single Good Time by Allyson Nichole Burnett in 2012 for copyright infringement.
And according to TMZ, a judge ruled in Burnett’s favour and has ordered Carly’s record company BMI to pay $800,000 in royalties to the Alabama based singer-songwriter.
Burnett claimed Carly, American synthpop artist Owl City and other musicians behind Good Time ripped off sounds from her 2010 tune AH, It's a Love Song.
Carly has not yet commented on the legal decision.
The Canadian singer is currently preparing for her Broadway debut.
The New York Times reported that the 28-year-old Call Me Maybe singer will take on the title role in Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Cinderella.
Producers told the outlet she would enjoy a 12-week run in the show beginning February 4, 2014.
Carly will replace actress Laura Osnes, who has enjoyed the role for the last year.
She joins Fran Drescher, who has taken on the part of Cinderella's evil stepmother.
In an official statement, Carly noted she had long wished to star in a musical on the Great White Way.
She recalled attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts after high school, when she began studying performances.
"My favourite part of the school year was our trip to New York, where we met Broadway performers and toured the theatres," Carly noted, adding she was particularly inspired by the story of rags-to-riches Cinderella.
"It's so hopeful and inspiring. I've always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely.”
