Acclaimed singer songwriter Martyn Joseph will next month perform a one-off 'collector's item' of a concert in London when he plays his latest album - the 17-track Tires Rushing by in the Rain - in its entirety.
After three decades memorably peppering his live performances with songs by American rock icon Bruce Springsteen - and frequently being dubbed 'The Welsh Springsteen' - it was probably inevitable that he would be urged by his fans to step up to the plate and record an album of songs by The Boss.
Joseph's 32nd recording, Tires Rushing by in the Rain, itself a line from Springsteen's dreaming, escapist The Promise, was released last autumn to media acclaim from both sides of the Atlantic, from Bob Harris who declared it 'brave-but brilliant!' to Springsteen's own mighty U.S. fan site, Backstreets who described it as ' a stunning tribute'.
Tickets, price £15, for the unique February 20 gig at Camden's historic Cecil Sharp House (home of the English Folk Dance and Song Society), are available from Gigantic, Musicglue and We Got Tickets sites. More information on 020 7485 2206 and www.efdss.org. Promoted by EFDSS in association with Songlines Magazine, the concert promises to be something special and is selling fast.
