Sky Ferreira says Miley Cyrus is in charge of her own "show".
The American singer-songwriter joins Miley on tour in America in February and says they have a lot in common.
She admires the Wrecking Ball singer for knowing what she wants, and going about achieving her goals.
"People act like she has a man behind her running the show, but it's all her. Miley's very supportive and open-minded," Sky told British magazine Grazia.
Sky has also been no stranger to the headlines, and last year was arrested for alleged drug possession.
The 21-year-old performer says that it wasn't as bad as the media make out and is adamant that she is not a drug addict.
"It was blown out of proportion. I think it's more interesting that way. People called me crazy and a drug addict, but I'm not," she stated.
After being signed at 17, Sky took a break to work out who she was as an artist.
She wasn't comfortable being compared to other pop stars of the time, and was vocal about this to her label Capitol Records.
"They saw a young girl who they thought they could make into Britney, but that's not what I wanted. I like making music and being successful but I wanted to do it under my own rules.
"I was tired of being treated like I was a product or vessel. A good pop song should say more than let's go party,'" she explained.
Modelling funded Sky's singing career and she posed for Calvin Klein and magazine Dazed & Confused, among others.
She credits modelling with helping her have full control over her music career.
Sky has spoken up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child and a song on her new album Night Time, My time is about this topic.
"I'm not good with confrontation. I didn't know how to process what had happened and took it out on myself. I was quiet about it when it was happening but now I feel like I can shed some light in it if it's happening to someone else," she said of her track I Blame Myself.
