Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have had their hopes of marrying at the Palace of Versailles dashed according to reports.

The couple, nicknamed Kimye, visited the landmark outside of Paris over the weekend in the alleged hope of being able to hold their wedding there.

But according to Radar Online, the couple were told before their visit on Sunday evening that a wedding ceremony was out of the question.

“[A]wedding/reception wouldn’t take place at Versailles. It would just have been too intrusive for visitors to the Palace, and the staff,” a source told the website.

The Palace was built during the 17th century and was home to Marie Antoinette.

Famed for its elegance, the Palace has several large spaces available to hire including the Hall of Mirrors, which is one of two areas that can hold up to 600 guests.

It is thought that despite the advance warning, Kim and Kanye had hoped that a visit in person could change the mind of the officials.

“Kim and Kanye really wanted to get married at Versailles and were both hoping to persuade officials during their visit…ultimately it backfired. It was still a firm no,” the source added to Radar.

The couple didn’t keep the visit a secret from their fans however, with Kim posting a video titled Versailles after dark.

With their hopes dashed, it is expected that the reality star and her rapper beau will continue searching French venues.

“Kim and Kanye will now be scouting private estates and chateaus in the region. Working with an estate manager would be much easier than dealing with all of the red tape of having a wedding at a public venue,” the source continued. “The couple is looking for something grand, but something that can offer privacy and security.”
