Flavor Flav of the veteran rap group Public Enemy was arrested on Thursday morning while driving with a suspended driver's license on Long Island.

The New York State Police issued a statement on the arrest:

On 1/9/14, at about 9:30 AM, Valley Stream troopers stopped a black Hyundai for speeding (79 mph in a 55 zone), on the southbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway near the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead. A license check of the driver, William Drayton, age 54, of Las Vegas NV, revealed that he was operating with 16 suspensions on his license. He was also found to possess a small amount of marihuana. Mr. Drayton is known as the rapper Flavor Flav.

The defendant was arrested for Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation), and traffic violations. Mr. Drayton was released on an appearance ticket in order to allow him to attend his mother's funeral. All charges returnable to Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead on January 28, 2014.Flavor Flav's mother, Anna Dreyton, died on December 31.

The rapper has a long list of arrests, including a number for moving violations and drug charges. In 2002, he spent nine weeks at Rikers Island in New York for driving with a suspended license, parking tickets and missing parole meetings. In 2011, he was arrested on outstanding warrants, including two for driving with a suspended license.
