Mark Wahlberg has joked he was “an absolute train wreck” during his music career.

Before he made it as an actor, the 42-year-old started out as a rapper called Marky Mark and performed with friends called the Funky Bunch.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday night, the host couldn’t resist reminding the star of his first appearance 21 years ago.

“I started wearin' the longer shorts because ... the regular brief underwear ... get sweaty and tend to get stretched out,” Mark explained in the old clip about what happens when he raps and pulls down his pants. “You don't want nothin' fallin' out the side.”

The footage left The Departed actor with his face in his hands.

When Jay asked if he still had that problem, Mark was quick to quip “not anymore”.

"They give Justin Bieber a hard time, I was an absolute train wreck. Wow,” he added with a look of disbelief.

The footage wasn’t the only chance the two men had to dip in to Mark’s past.

Talk soon turned to the Entourage movie, which Mark executive produces as he did with the hit TV show which is based on his own life.

“I’ve been clawing and scratching trying to convince everybody to do it,” the star explained.

“Everybody finally agreed that it was the best thing. The audiences really wanted it for a long time.”

Fans won’t have to wait too long for the film to hit the big screens either as Mark hopes it will be ready by Autumn.

However whether he makes an appearance in the big screen version is yet to be decided.

“If they ask me to I will, but if not, no pressure. I’m just really excited that the guys are coming back,” he said.
