Carrie Underwood is reportedly worried about getting "eaten alive by haters".

The country singer appeared on a live telecast of famous musical The Sound of Music, but her acting was slammed by critics.

While she's now receiving more offers to ditch singing in favour of acting, the 30-year-old is said to be reluctant.

"Carrie isn't sure about taking on more acting roles for fear she'll be eaten alive by haters," a source revealed to National Enquirer.

"But she's the toast of Tinsel-Town right now. She's gotten offers for doing everything from TV guest spots to feature films, and she's being urged to move to Los Angeles so she can focus on pursuing big-ticket acting roles."

Carrie took on the role of Maria von Trapp in NBC's version of The Sound of Music and attracted an impressive audience of 18.6 million.

Despite the poor reviews she can get people to tune in, which is important in the industry.

"Hollywood is all about the bottom line, and regardless of how badly her acting was received, Carrie proved she can draw a huge audience," the insider continued.

"But she feels as if she's caught between a rock and a hard place. She's thin-skinned and worries that she doesn't have the chops to compete against A-list actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson.

"Carrie would love to have a dual singing/acting career like her idol Dolly Parton. But she also knows that she'll have a huge target on her back among the same critics who panned her performance."
