Flaming Lips Christmas film gets 24 hour YouTube release

The Flaming Lips have put their entire movie ‘Christmas On Mars’ online but only for 24 hours.

‘Christmas On Mars’ is The Flaming Lips 2008 sci-fi film. It tells the story of main character Major Syrtis and the first Christmas of the newly colonized Mars. Syrtis tries to organise a Christmas pageant to celebrate the first colonized birth.

The movie was written and directed by singer Wayne Coyne and features the entire band as the cast with Steve Burns, Adam Goldberg and Fred Armisen.

Coyne started work on ‘Christmas On Mars’ in 2001, completed it in 2005 and premiered the movie at the Sasquatch Music Festival in 2008.

Two songs from the movie ‘Protonilus Death March’ and ‘Syrtis Major’ have only ever been released as a limited edition 5000-only picture disc EP.
