Jennifer Hudson prepares for Christmas straight after Halloween.

The American star wastes no time getting ready for the festive season after the spooky holiday on October 31.

She and her family – fiancé David Otunga and four-year-old son David Daniel Otunga, Jr. – all get stuck in when hitting the shops and decorating.

“We get started the day after Halloween. We shop for our gifts and we light the tree. We [were] stuck about whether to buy a real tree or a fake one this year,” she admitted to British newspaper the Metro.

“I grew up with a fake Christmas tree but Big Dave [David Sr.] grew up with a real one. Seeing my son’s face light up is my favourite part of Christmas. Having a kid makes it so much more fun.”

Jennifer stars in Christmas movie Black Nativity. The film follows a street-wise teen from Baltimore who has been raised by a single mother. He decides to travel to New York to see his estranged relatives over the festive period, which propels him into a life-changing and inspirational journey.

While he has grown up with an actress mother Jennifer is clueless about whether her son will follow in her footsteps, but knows he will be successful in whatever career he chooses.

“Right now he wants to be an actor, the next minute a wrestler, the next he is singing,” she laughed. “I am so curious to see what he is going to be. I know he is going to take over the world.”
