Cult alt-indie-rock Londoners Tellison this week unveiled brand new single Snow (Don't Tell The Truth This Christmas) available now exclusively from the group's bandcamp as a pay-what-you-want download here and just like their 2011 Christmas single (Good Luck It's Christmas) all profits going to the charity The Campaign Against Living Miserably.

We certainly recommend the beautifully surreal video too, have a look below.

Inspired in equal parts by Dave Bazan, The Weakerthans and East 17's 'Stay Another Day' (ahem), Tellison's front man and guitarist SH Davidson wrote Snow (Don't Tell The Truth This Christmas), now picking up support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 and Amazing Radio, on Christmas Day afternoon 2012 while waiting for his Turkey to cook.

By that point he realised it was probably too late to get a Christmas single out so 'Snow...' has been gently mulling for 11 months in Tellison's practice space in an East London basement. The song itself is a hopeless request for a Christmas truce, a sad plea for a stay of execution. Where most Christmas singles emphasise the ephemeral positivity of the season and ignore Winter's more sombre aspects, Davidson's song acknowledges the value in that pretence without denying December's underlying melancholy.

The song begs for the protection of the joyful Christmas period precisely because without it the freezing sadness might become too much to bear.

Tellison's third album will be released in 2014.
