Nathan Sykes has warned fans not to believe rumours about him.

Earlier this week it was reported The Wanted singer had split with his singer girlfriend Ariana Grande. He now seems to have responded to the gossip via a cryptic tweet.

"Don't even know what to say ...hiiiiiiiiiiiiii," he wrote.

"Ooooo I know what to say! Don't believe anything until you hear it from me or one of the boys. Everyyyoneee calmmmmm doooowwwwnnnnn (sic)."

The Wanted star had been relatively quiet on Twitter recently, with his last message written on December 10.

In a further emotional post he also informed his followers that his granddad has passed away.

"R.I.P Grandad. Gonna miss you. Hope I can continue to make you proud," he wrote.

"Hi everyone! Sorry it has been so long. Feels like I have forgotten how to work twitter (sic)."

The 20-year-old singer attached a picture of himself with grandfather, showing both of them smiling in the black and white snap.

Nathan and Ariana, also 20, started dating in August, but during an interview with radio station 93.3 FLZ, the US starlet seemed to confirm they had called it a day.

"You're a little behind," she apparently said.

"We're really good friends."

The synopsis on the station's website, as well as a tweet reporting the split, has since been deleted.

Ariana hasn't addressed the rumours and is instead focusing on her career.

"Can't decide what I want my next single to be....... I can't make up my mind (sic)," she tweeted.

Nathan isn't the only member of The Wanted dealing with personal issues.

Earlier this month it was revealed the band had cancelled their European tour dates after “unforeseeable changes" in scheduling.

This comes after news Max George had to drop out of US shows due to "family matters".

"To let all our #TWFanmily know, @MaxTheWanted headed home to attend some family matters & won't be with us for the rest of the trip," a message informed fans on The Wanted's official Twitter page.

"Thank you so much for all your lovely tweets and messages of support for @MaxTheWanted we know he really appreciates it. x."
