Hugh Jackman led a star-studded line-up to perform for US President Barack Obama on Sunday.

The actor served as host of America's annual holiday spectacular in Washington, D.C. called Christmas in Washington, and welcomed the crowd during what he called a "time for warmth of family and friends".

The special, attended by the First Family, included performances from Sheryl Crow, Anna Kendrick, Janelle Monáe, Train's Pat Monahan and the Backstreet Boys.

USA Today reports the boyband opened the show with a medley of their holiday tunes, including Christmas Time and It's Christmas Time Again.

Anna later took the stage to sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, while Pat belted out Merry Christmas Baby and Sheryl entertained the crowd with a rendition of Please Come Home for Christmas.

Janelle closed the show with This Christmas and was later joined by Hugh and the rest of the cast for a medley, which ended as everyone sang Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Janelle logged onto Twitter shortly thereafter, gushing over the experience of performing for the US president, his wife, Michelle Obama, and their two daughters.

"Just performed for Christmas in Washington with The First Family. What an honor," she wrote.

The holiday special, which benefits the Children's National Health System, is scheduled to air on TNT this Friday.
